Why This Reference Exists
Printed Martinsburg directories ended, but many records behind local research still exist. The Berkeley County Assessor and County Clerk handle property and recorded instruments. Election records follow West Virginia law. Historical volumes are held by the Campbell Beall Room, FamilySearch, and the West Virginia Archives. Finding a present owner or tracing an earlier household can require several custodians. We bring their search links, contacts, known coverage years, and access limits together as one Martinsburg reference.
What the Reference Includes
- Searches by purpose: the street directory for address records, the city directory for historical volumes, and the resident lookup for one person
- Local custodians: the assessor, County Clerk, elections office, courts, vital records offices, library, and archives
- Practical methods: tracing a parcel, reading old directory entries, and following a household across available years
- Access boundaries: what West Virginia makes public, what remains restricted, and where to send a focused records request
Limits on Our Role
This is a privately operated reference site, not part of the City of Martinsburg, Berkeley County, West Virginia government, a court, or a library. These limits always apply:
- We do not confirm whether a named person now lives in Martinsburg
- We cannot retrieve, certify, amend, or interpret an official record for you
- We cannot add or remove a person from a government roll or outside database
- We do not provide legal advice about records or disputes
- We cannot guarantee that every link, date range, fee, or office detail remains current
The record custodian alone can confirm, certify, or correct its record. Information found here cannot support credit, employment, tenant, insurance, or other FCRA-regulated decisions.
